I was wondering if you ever look forward to coloring a certain panlel in your nuzlocke. Or do you have a favorite part of the nuzlocke you like to work on, like backgrounds or effects, ect.

I do have certain favourite panels in each update!

For example in #030, I really liked the Shadow Triad panels and the Mimi dodging a rock throw panel. Those were the most fun to color/tone/draw

Okay, I have to ask, and I'm almost positive you've answered this question before, but I can't seem to find it and I'm really curious; what is your least favorite part of the gaming part of making a nuzlocke comic?
Anonymous

You mean my least favorite part when playing a nuzlocke?

Grinding.

And some boring scripted events that don’t allow me to pause or scroll through (I hated the Ghetsis speech scripted event in Accumula)

I've noticed that most of your gijinkas have specific themes; where do you get inspiration for them?
Anonymous

Honestly, it varies.

Generally I try to aim for casual clothes because I sometimes like to imagine designing clothes like it? But depending on what personality/backstory/etc I give the gijinka, I will change the outfit accordingly! Especially if I try to go for an outfit that is of a certain culture (i.e. ethnic culture), I will try to research that up a bit before I try it out.

I've tried to nuzlocke a few times, but I always either get tired of playing it or tired of drawing it. Any tips on how to stay interested? Also, I tend to write/draw it as I play; would it be better just to play and take notes and draw once I've finished?

When playing through one, I keep myself interested by looking forward to certain goals, i.e. evolving a team-mate, getting to a gym, etc. It’s much easier to do this when you play a game you like as opposed to a game you dislike. During Diamond I used to play a little bit and draw the comic out but it got annoying…so I started to just take notes so I can draw the comic out as soon as I finished the game. Regardless of how I played/drew the nuzlocke I had to take notes on my game while playing every few mins so that was annoying…

As for being motivated to draw the nuzlocke…this is more due to my life situation than anything. Since most of my time is spent on medical school studies, having time to draw anything is really something I look forward to during study sessions. When I have the free time (given that I am not sleepy or tired) I just jump right into working on my art. I know I used to have a TF2 fanart binge during such times but lately I suddenly got a surge of motivation to try to get progress in my nuzlocke that it’s hard for me to draw anything other than my comic.

Hope this helped..?

……..anatomy tutorials.

NOT TO MENTION YEARS OF PRACTICE AND SUFFERING AND CRYING

Seriously though just google the shit out of anatomy tutorials and pick the ones you like best. Don’t just assume every tutorial is good. I just ganked this link for convenience.

Also taking through a medical anatomy class (because med school) also really helped idk :u

what's your opinion on the "standard" jokes in nuzlocke comics such as ~RAPE HURRHURR~ characters and a lot of downgrading uses of gay-related words? as an avid fan of nuzlocke comics and a homosexual i find it really annoying that like EVERY comic includes "HAHA gay-ry" ish jokes and a questionable professor... I really love your runs though. I hope you're ok and doing well! You are improving so much lately!
Anonymous

I have the impression that most nuzlockes serve as outlets for many artists/screenshot run makers (but not so much for writers) to snark on the silliness of games…hence the creepy profs and random NPC gay jokes.

While some jokes I am more forgiving about (i.e. the creepy prof and derpy rival names due to the game giving you the power of custom naming your rival), some I am not as fond of (i.e. some applications of rape jokes). The use of bad jokes do not immediately turn me off from a run, but if the distatefulness of these jokes continue on for too long I will stop reading it.

As for downgrading of gay/lesbian/etc terms…I don’t think I am well-versed enough to talk about them properly. I can say that I myself go to the silly gay joke at times but I hope I can depict less blatant stuff later on in the run (?)

Despite all my dumb ways that I have probably ruined a nuzlocke for someone, I am glad you like my run ;3; And I am doing well (even with busy/stressful schedule), thank you~

I thought you mentioned a White 2 Nuzlocke you did. Any plans to turn that into a comic once Myths of Unova is done?

So I assumed that I would do a White 2 run after White but I am conflicted.

On one hand…yeah it makes sense to, right?

But on the other hand, I am not sure if I will be able to continue drawing nuzlocke comics after White finishes. If I do decide to, I am not sure if I will be able to keep up the same pace/quality as I am trying with my current run. This is also complicated by the planned ENDING of my white run comic, which is not that similar to actual game ending.

TL;DR: We’ll see. For now, gonna focus on getting White done.

If one wanted to be your friend, how would they go about it? ;n;

This is really hard because I literally do not really have a set criteria of what makes you a friend.

But the general dealmaker is this: patience and tolerance.

Especially as of late, I am really busy and sometimes I will be MIA for days and weeks. I sometimes might be too tired/stressed/busy to talk or to reply to messages you may send randomly. And sometimes I might be in a mood to spam people with messages and talk at the most odd times; if you can, respond to them and I will reciprocate in kind.

If you are willing to go through this, I can be your friend.

Did you like N when you played through White? I know your OC doesn't think much of him but is that just her own reaction or are you projecting your own opinions through her? 100% curiosity haha :3

That’s just her reaction :u

I kinda found him weird as hell at first (also whatever serious first impression he could have had with me was ruined by early lolcreeper!N fanart) but over the game course he was more interesting than most other Pokemon game villains.

So yeah, I guess I liked him okay.

I love your nuzlocke, but one thing that I really admire is how you do your special effects. Do you usually know how to do them or do you play around a bit until you get the effect you want?

Since this is a fancomic I try a bunch of different things for battle/background effects and not worry about consistency.

Literally I am trying different visual fx tutorials in this run. For example, if you compare the fire/water effects in my white run there are many different ways I approach them.

I love playing around with layer styles, filters, and things to achieve my goals. And I am glad you guys love it!

Hello! I would like like to ask (and I honestly hope you haven't answered something like this before and I just haven't seen it ;n;) how you do your glow effect, like Jordan's electricity for example. Everything I do ends up looking... sparkly rather than glow-y.

I actually use this method to make my lightening :>

I recently started a nuzlocke comic of my own and posted it on the forums; do you have any tips for getting a good audience?
Anonymous

Given my rather poor involvement in the forums I feel like a bad person to ask this but…here are some ways you can extend viewership

  • Slap your run’s thread link in your sig. This is kinda obvious. Not everyone is gonna click every run thread they see in the first page. As you post around people will be able to click the sig link to access your run more easily.
  • Read/comment on other runs! It’s probably best to give them some good feedback other than “This run is great! You have another follower :)” I think giving nice insight is always welcome and the OP by chance might check our your run.
  • Be active in this forum section too. Challenge discussion forums have interesting threads that you can participate in and I think several readers go there at least once to check out interesting ways some forum users did with the challenge itself.
  • Just make a good story/comic/whatever. Due to the new Featured Fan Run Thread, your story might get featured and may just gain viewership because one of the featurer deems it good for the honor. They usually focus on runs that are not as popular so if you plan and work hard, you might get lucky! (This is kinda a chance-y thing so don’t bank on it)
Hope this helps.
Any tips for making a death scene as sad/dramatic as possible?
Anonymous

Buildup and Payoff.

Dying itself can make the greatest impact if the reader has had some attachment (doesn’t have to be a positive attachment) to the character that is fated to die. Prior to the death, spend time developing or just presenting the character and his/her/their personality. Plan the development well so that when s/he/they dies, it causes the most emotional response. (The actual death itself can be executed much more quickly)

The funny thing about nuzlockes is that readers expect someone to die (they rarely expect a clean run). So having a simple death is not surprising to them. The surprise comes in HOW they die is the real kicker.

I hope I can pull that off too.

Did you ever cheat on a nuzlocke? (Catch someone you shouldn't have, let someone live if they died, etc?
Anonymous

I have caught several extra mons during a nuzlocke for shits and giggles yes.

But I never used them in the run nor do I ever put them in the comics.

In Route 5 after I failed at catching a Trubbish aka I fainted it (in the comic issue #023 I don’t even mention a capture there), I just kinda dicked around and caught an Liepard, which I never used or will mention in the comic.

Also later on I saw the Route 7 NPC who wanted a Boldore for his Emolga and so I did an extra catch to trade…and just boxed it. I was sorely tempted to use him though………..

Hi Kynim! I like your art! Just a quick question but how long does it take you to do commissions? I'd imagine you'd be up to your neck in them sometimes with school and everything! Oh and good job with neuro and good luck in school! X3
Anonymous

If I had free time and motivation, not very long. If I time the total number of time to do a simple commission…maybe 1 hour for a normal character draw?

But with school factored in it kinda goes out to a few weeks since some days I just can’t afford to draw since I need to study. I always say that to anyone who wants a commission because some people don’t like waiting or have deadlines
